Lisbon

Walking into town along Avenue Libertad.

Praca Pedro IV

Arco da Rua Augusta

Terrier rondo Paco

Se Catedral

Alfalma district, the old town leading up steep hills to the castle.

Castello de Sao Jorge

The massive Belem Monastory, (Mosteiro dos Jeronimo) home of the original Portugese Tart.

Vasco da Gamma is buried in the church.

Torre de Belem

Food carts, Lisbon style.

In search of the perfect Nata de Belem (Portugese tart) at Pasteis de Belem who have the original (and highly secret) recipe. We found it! 10/10. Crisp, buttery pastry, light, fluffy and eggy filling. Mmmmmm.

Mike and his two tarts.

More tiles in the bakery.

And graffiti

Route 28 tram ride is a hoot. Window shopping from the tram.

Lots of steep hills.

They're changing guards at Assembleia da Republica.

The large roundabout at Marquis da Pombal, our beacon to find the way home. That's our house, the tall white building in the background, well located opposite the Sheraton and above a shopping centre. The car is locked away very securely in private parking underneath. You need to pass through a series of keyed gates and doors to get there so we felt our car was very secure here.

  3. The tram is a hoot and very good value, unlike the Botanical gardens which are very sad. Must nail the Portugese tart recipe when I get home.
