Conimbriga

We were late to get going today after returning to the Renault dealer to get the broken window repaired. Luckily for us the part had arrived and we were set to head off by midday. So, with less time to look around, we only had the one stop on our way to Lisbon.

Conimbriga is the site of Roman ruins, a first century city that is gradually being unearthed and was rediscovered in the early 1900s. It's a sprawling site with many large homes contains several rooms and bathing areas. The mosaic floors are in remarkable condition.

There's a big wall that separates the site, built to protect the city from intruders. Visitors are pretty much free to wander around, some of the more fragile areas are roped off.

But what got us there in the first place are the water fountains, for 50 cents you can turn them on.

Then off to Lusbon, a large and busy city. Our clean and spacious apartment is well located, right opposite the Sheridan in a complex above a shopping centre. Pedro, our host, met us to show where and how to park the car....quite the rigmarole. But, we are assured it is safe. Tomorrow to explore.
