A day in Seville

Seville is a city that keeps on giving.
We started with the grand Catedral  in the centre of the old city. It was built to be the largest Cathedral of its time and houses many valuable paintings, sculptures and treasures.

The tomb of Christopher Columbus (Colon) is here though it is not entirely clear whether or not his remains are here or if they are his son's. Colon's body was moved several times as each South American country gained its independence. So, even if it is his body, there's probably not much of it here. The tomb is pretty impressive though.

The largest alter piece in existence depicts all aspects of Jesus' life in great detail.

In the treasury there are valuable items that include lots of gold and precious stones. And some relics of saints.

Lots of chapels with lots of gold and silver.

And a painting by Goya.

The architecture is on a grand scale.

The painting which had the kneeling San Antonio of Padua stolen. This was later found in New York and returned

Views of the city from the tower.

The bullring.

Next stop, Plaza Espana, built in 1929 for the World Expo. Every region of Spain is represented in this vast plaza. Tiles on speed! They sure know how to build in detail and on a grand scale.

After a short siesta it was back to town for flamenco. There's heaps of places to choose from and we reserved a table in a tiny bar next to the Cathedral. For 15€ we got three generous tapas , including vego options, and the show. The artists were focussed and intense. A memorable evening.

And on the way home, Argentinian tango in the park.
