Figueres to San Sebastián

I'm With a long drive ahead of us we set off early taking the 'route economica' south of the mountains rather than the toll roads through France. A good decision as it turned out to be a series of well made freeways for most of the way avoiding most small villages and their narrow streets. Heading inland we climbed back up the mountains through several tunnels past Olot and other now familiar villages. We could see Montserrat in the distance which looked spectacular in the morning light. Heading towards Lleida the terrain became much flatter and drier with the mountains further away to the north.

North of Huesa we passed the Mallos de Riglos, a popular rock climbing and white water rafting area. The river was a gorgeous turquoise colour and the blackberries juicy and sweet.

The trip took us further north and west, past the Sierra de Leire on the way to Pamplona.

Another 'Way' to Santiago.

Then it was a steady downhill run into San Sebastián through tunnels and steep gradients.

San Sebastián is such a lovely spot. The variety of food is amazing, and for me, it was back to La Vina for their cheesecake that I had been hanging out for.
